Khyati Joshi

Dr. Joshi was recently featured both in The New York Times and on WNYC Studios to discuss the increased attention paid to South Asian Americans as a voting bloc in recent years, especially given their strong organizing efforts in states like New Jersey. The New York Times notes that Asian population in New Jersey has grown significantly in the past few decades and Dr. Joshi, co-chair of the state’s South Asian caucus, highlights the significance of the group’s influence and the effectiveness of outreach efforts in the community.

In these media appearances, Dr. Joshi recalls the importance of microtargeting in reaching South Asian voters when her husband, Passaic County Freeholder John Bartlett, ran for re-election in what was forecasted to be a difficult off-year election in 2015. The efforts of the South Asian caucus helped drive voter turnout and contributed to Freeholder Bartlett’s victory, and their support has continued to bolster candidates throughout the state.
